CASE SOLVED! ...OR IS IT? - Stand-alone tool for solo-roleplaying investigations

CASE SOLVED!

...OR IS IT?

Current version: 0.011

CASE SOLVED!  gives you a series of rules and guidelines to carry out investigations in solo-roleplaying. To be precise, these rules have been adapted from those found in VISORPGZ+ Gold Edition by removing all the unneeded mentions to its mechanics.  In this document, you'll find...

  • Rules for sleuthing investigations, in a gritty, noir style. Or a cozy style, if that's what floats your boat.
  • Rules for scholarly research. Yep, including unfathomable, Eldritch ones, if you want (heh, it's your funeral...or your ticket to the asylum).
  • Rules for quick investigations, based on genius-level analysis skills, or on a bunch of people in a room throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

You can download this document by clicking here. Yes, that's the third time that the document has been linked here, because the third's time is the charm and yayayada!

Updates & Errata

0.011 - There was a remnant of the original VISORPG system in the 'red herrings' section, mentioning a 'failure countdown box' concept. It has been replace by a system-agnostic alternative, which summarized can be explained as 'you can get out of a tight spot by hand-waving a solution, but you must kill one pending Clue and turn it into a red herring'.

  1. I see that the Red Herring mechanic mention failure countdown box. How would you use this with systems without this mechanic?

  2. Oops, this is a remnant of the original system that I over-sighted! In any other system, this should be phrased like this: "If during your investigations you find yourself in a very tight spot, or have fumbled something that endangers the whole case, you can use this 'get out of jail' card (although it's not going to be free): you introduce some change that saves the situation, but in exchange you must kill ‘kill’ one of the pending Clues by turning it
into a dead one...", and the rest remains unchanged. Thank you for pinpointing this mistake, I'm going to update the document ASAP with that correction.
